I always remember my mum tucking me into bed and then sitting next to me. It was time for a story! She would open the book and start to read the magical stories that I loved…My favourite Bedtime Stories! I think I knew every line from every book, she couldn’t skip a word: I would know. These books, these magical fantasies that gripped me from a young age, were Enid Blytons, Far Away Tree, Series.
I had them all, my name written inside each and every one. I do think they influenced me to become a daydreamer on times and also became the start of my obsession with becoming engrossed in a story, so much so that I dream of being the heroine or even hero in a woman’s form.
I passed these books to my oldest daughter who too became engrossed. She also indulges in her books, becomes a part of them, Fantasy her favourite read.
I wouldn’t change the person I have become. Did the books influence me? Maybe, maybe not…
I love to read and I think every child should have a mother who shares her fondest memories from childhood.
Memories of childhood, books and daydreams that they hold!

I read a lot of Enid Blyton when I was younger too. I used to read the Faraway Tree and Mr Pinkwhistle, and then the Malory Towers and St Clare’s series. The stories were so magical and I still remember some of them vividly, especial some of the wonderful lands the characters visited and the special foods they ate. Super stories and very happy memories 🙂

I loved visiting the different lands with them; It felt like I was there and experiencing it with too.
Yes, I also remember reading Mr PinkWhistle. I also loved Naughty Amelia Jane. Special times with special people 😊
As I grew older I loved the Famous Five series. Every book we purchased; I think my daughter still has them in her book collection!

ZuZu, Nick, their mamas and I heartily agree. There is nothing like reading a book with a loved one before dream time.

My children are grown now and no grandchildren as yet so no little ones to read to anymore. Sometimes I’m lucky enough to be at a friends and I get to read to their children. I love to see the concentration as they take in every word and ask questions about the pictures in the book!

I think now days if a parent does not prod their child to read, they will simply get lost in all the electronic ‘stuff’ and never know the joy of reading a story … Diane

Agree Diane, capturing them young is important. I loved to use the local library with mine. We would always chose a book and do some colouring to put up on the wall. It also taught them the importance of knowing their time limits with a book and keeping it safe and tidy as it wasn’t their property.
My oldest remained true to reading, my middle a computer geek and my youngest is more interested in makeup and nails!😝
